The Story of three As; Adopt, Adapt and Adept

How many of you have heard the moto, “Adopt, Adapt and become Adept”? Long back Japanese chose this slogan: Adopt, Adapt and become Adept. The idea behind the slogan perhaps was to send their engineer to other countries and have them learn the industry standards and find out who excels in which area. When these engineers came back home, they became efficiency engineer of the nation.

I had few thoughts on this slogan related to Agile Transformation for an organization. While most enterprises are pretty conservative, more and more of them are encouraging teams to adopt Agile development methodologies in order to be successful.

Adopt

Adopt is also a verb, and it means “to legally take something as your own,” or “to begin to use something.” Adopt to Agile Principles and values as a new way of delivering work to your customer.

Adapt

Adapt is a verb that means “to change for a new situation or purpose.” Adapt to the new way of doing things which you Adopted. Adhere to the principles and values.

Adept

Adept is an adjective that means “good at doing something difficult.” This doesn’t need much explanation. Become efficient is everyone’s goal. Practice makes a man perfect.
