One day, a Chicken and a Pig are walking down the road and Chicken says, “Hey Pig, we should open a restaurant”. Pig says, “Hmm maybe, what would we call it?”. Chicken replies “How about Ham and Eggs?”. The Pig thinks for a moment and says “No thanks. I would be committed but you would only be involved.”
We all, as Agilists and Scrum practitioners, have heard the above story. This story was created as a metaphor by Ken Schwaber and has been in use to separate the people who are committed by the people who are involved.
With 2011 Scrum Guide changes, this metaphor was removed from Scrum Guide. This metaphor created labels, which in turn generated controversies. To minimize the negative effects, Ken and Jeff felt it would be better not to discuss accountability through metaphor.
