Why it is hard to find a good mentor

You will not find in any Menu.

If at all there could be a restaurant where you can go, look at the menu for the list of mentors available, pick one and order. After a while, the mentor which you picked will come and meet up with you to provide the help you are seeking. Wouldn’t that be so easy to find the mentor? Unfortunately, it is not this easy. Perhaps because of one reason as it is a two-way street. People to starve to become something in their life. After struggle when they become somebody, they also look to fill their empty glass. Believe me, even most successful people in this world will have something to fill their glass with.

Be clear on what are you looking for?

With that, if you are looking to find a mentor, first stand in front of the mirror and ask what you have in return to give back to the other person. Mentoring is not one directional. Mentorship will sustain if there is a reciprocating frequency with which both can interact and get benefitted with each other. One must be aware of the skills he/she has. When you are aware of what you can bring to the table, then it’s the time to move to next step of looking for a mentor.

Anywhere you go, you will end up finding someone who can probably mentor you in one thing or another. So, the next question, in front of you comes as why are you seeking a mentor? Mostly we fail to recognize a great mentor because we are not sure of what we are looking for. Also, if we are sure what we are looking for. What do you want to learn? Plus when meet any potentially great mentor, we tend to not ask questions. The best way to not let a great mentor slip away is to ask quality questions and be engaged in the conversations.
